Veste Coburg, also known as the Franconian Crown, rises about 160 metres above the town centre on a prominent hill. The medieval fortress measures roughly 135 by 260 metres and is exceptionally well preserved. First documented in 1225 as property of the Dukes of Merania, it later passed to the House of Wettin.
Ehrenburg Palace in Coburg was the residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, built in 1543–1547 on the site of a dissolved Franciscan monastery. After a fire in 1690 it was rebuilt in Baroque style, and in the 19th century Karl Friedrich Schinkel redesigned the façade in Gothic Revival sandstone with French Empire interiors.
St. Moriz Church in Coburg is the town's oldest church, tracing its origins to a Romanesque basilica from the 13th century. The Gothic eastern choir was built around 1380–1400, while the late Gothic nave was begun in 1520. Martin Luther preached seven sermons in the unfinished church in 1530, and it served as the ducal burial site until 1860.
Coburg's Rose Garden was laid out on the former Zollbauernwiese, acquired by the city in 1846. Redesigned for the German Rose Show in 1929, it attracted nearly 200,000 visitors. The park now holds over 72 rose varieties, a palmhouse from 1984, and Ferdinand Lepcke's Sintflutbrunnen fountain, inaugurated in 1906.
Immerse yourself in the cultural splendor of the Landestheater Coburg, a neoclassical jewel in Coburg's historic heart. Since 1840, this theater has enchanted audiences with opera, drama, and ballet. Although undergoing renovation, its performances continue at the Globe Coburg, preserving its artistic legacy.
