The City Palace on Alter Markt in Potsdam served from 1670 as the residence of Brandenburg electors and Prussian kings. Knobelsdorff redesigned it in Frederician Rococo style between 1747 and 1750. Burned out in 1945 and demolished in 1959–1960, it was rebuilt externally by Peter Kulka in 2010–2013 and now houses the Brandenburg state parliament.
The Museum Barberini on Potsdam's Alter Markt opened in 2017 inside a reconstructed classicist-baroque palace from the 1770s, destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt from 2013 through patron Hasso Plattner. Its 17 galleries host temporary exhibitions and a permanent Impressionist collection, drawing over one million visitors by May 2019.
St. Nikolai Church on Potsdam's Alter Markt was built 1830–1837 to Karl Friedrich Schinkel's classicist plans as a centrally planned structure.
